The second day was spent at 九寨沟。 We had to take a cab to the entrance as the tour bus was not allowed to stop over at the entrance. It's a 5 mins ride to the entrance from the Sheraton hotel that we stayed in. I thought it's pretty crowded but our tour guide told us that the number of people is considered relatively low as compared to the peak period in 2003 where 20k-30k of people visited the park each day. I can only say China is really populous. With such a crowd, photo taking is more difficult than usual. It's usually a quick snap and many a times the photo will contain strangers as it's just too difficult to take the pictures without any stranger in the background. There are some ugly habits that I saw-- people jumping queue and people choosing to be ignorant of my presence and block me when I wanna take picture.
老天还真是不作美。When we reached, drizzle can be felt. By the time we board the bus to tour the national park and alighted at at our first stop, we had to bring out umbrella. The rain didn't stop until othe end of our tour. It's really disappointing as the rain has spoiled our mood as well as some of my photos. Some of the photos could have been clearer if not for the rain.
九寨沟 is all about water. There are many lakes including some colourful ones as well as waterfalls. The national park comprises of nine tibetian tribes and that explains why the name is as such. However, we could only see 3 of such tribes along the bus route. The tibetian tribes are special. They are colourful and I tend to find them mysterious. Our tour guide in this area is also half a Tibetian and I tend to feel that he has a very "ancient" look.
My favourite sight in this national park is the colourful lakes. They are beautiful and unique. As for waterfalls, I prefer the grand type of waterfalls like the Icelandic one which I have visited or probably Niagara Falls which I have yet to visit. But I can understand why the tour guide described it as like a 仙境。It does have a feel of the fairyland with the fog and rain. At one of the colourful lakes called 五花海,I even wore the Tibetian costume for photoshoots. I didn't think of this idea until the locals came by to sell the idea, but I guess it's a great experience as I did look good in it. Tibetian costumes are as colourful as their buildings.
